Take a jar and fill it half way up with apple wedges. Add regular vinegar just below the level of the apples. The gnats will be in the jar before you know it. Every once in a while put the lid on it and give it a shake and drown the trapped gnats. The gnats will be gone before you know it.

Pour 1/2" of cider vinegar into a bowl. Add a couple drops of unscented dish detergent. A few hours and you will see lots of drowned gnats.
