Well, your probably gonna get a lot of idiots on here saying we're not free, but if your talking about the US, here you go...
We have the freedom of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, exceptions include when your happiness is gleaned from raping, murdering, etc... Freedom of the press, only exception to this being if it would divulge military secrets, which makes sense to me. Right to bear arms. We don't have to quarter soldiers in our homes. There are other enumerated rights, but i'm not going to list them. You can look up the constitution.
From a life perspective...
We have the freedom, as long as we can afford it, to just jump in our cars and go to whatever place we want. No one's gonna question us, no one's gonna tell us we can't. No one stop's us from leaving our own country. We can set up a box on a street corner and preach if we want. We can basically do whatever we want as long as we're not killing, maiming, or destroying in any other way. The list of the freedom's we take for granted goes on and on.
Now, we can't do some things, but most of those are for good reason. You know, theft, murder, treason, assault... The things that have been frowned upon in all civilised, now that's a joke, countries in history.
Some people are gonna whine about the government listening to our conversations and seeing our texts. Excuse me, but, what do they care unless your doing something illegal? I think it's funny that some guy might be sitting there reading my texts. So what if he knows who i hate, or that i'm going bowling on friday? If that allows them to catch more criminals, i'm fine with it.
Anyway, if you want anything else, just add to the question.

American freedom is defined in the constitution. Unfortunately my true understanding of freedom is one that involves no man made rules. Using only rules which are defined by god would give us Earth freedom. I'm good with what we have in the US because I was born and lived 10 years in the Soviet Union where freedom was not part of living. Sometimes you must experience lack of freedom to appreciate some freedom, but total freedom can only be achieved through a society within which all individuals focus on the same goals and have the same fundamental principles without government. We don't even have that in our families or schools... True freedom will spin our society into chaos.

There are freedoms that come in conflict with each other, forcing a society to choose between the two. The freedom TO do something can conflict with someone else's freedom FROM whatever you want to do. This happens a lot when people live close together like in apartments. My freedom TO play loud music at 3 am will conflict with your right to be free FROM noise pollution at 3am (or you could say it infringes upon your freedom TO get some sleep at 3am).
This is why we elect governments to make and enforce rules that limit freedoms. If we didn't everyone, would be fighting each other to protect what they think should be their freedom when it conflicts with a freedom someone else thinks they should have; and then freedom would only belong to the strongest among us (that is "the rule of the jungle", otherwise known as anarchy).

Freedom is what we all had until George Bush stole 2 elections, then we lost our freedom. By the way he watched that bunch last night in the debate, I watched for about 5 minutes started throwing up , got a Migraine Headache. Finally turned to a good movie for relaxing. That was the biggest mess I have ever watched for just 5 minutes. WHEW.

Good one! Freedom to ME is...
1. A nation that is independant, where the people decide their own fate, not a ruler, dictator, etc
3. A nation that takes seriously their constitutional rights, and yet also take seriously the ground rules they are to abide by, which are the backbone of the country. Anyone who doesn't like them, is free to go.
4. A nation who stands behind and prays for it's government, military, and military families, because right or wrong, they are the keys to our freedom.
5.A nation who respects each persons right to live as they please, but who aren't too politically correct, to respect our nation's rights either.
6. A nation where the citizens make the laws, not the illegal immigrants.

To me it's the freedom to choose without restricting other peoples' freedom. However, living in consuming based communities does actually constrict us within boundaries where we are overwhelmed with artificial needs. That is not freedom. We're free to choose between product A and product B, but not if we are going to buy the product or not.

You can not live in civil society and be completely free. Our personal freedom only exists in the freedoms we are willing to grant those who are different from us. While people like to rag on the U.S., I still think we do a pretty good job at this. Not a perfect job, but a pretty good job.

We are free to let foreing attitudes dictate our policies. We are free to let foreigners enter our country and start business without paying taxes for 7 years. We are free to pay 18% of our wages into a social security system that won't be around for most of us to collect. We are free to pay extremely large amounts of money to pharmaceutical companies for a pill that costs 15 cents to manufacture. We are free to have the future of our country in the hands of greedy politicians who only look to make themselves richer and disregard any concerns for the people that put them there. We are free to write or say anything we want as long as it doesn't offend, or bring up religion in a public place. We are free to pay $4.00 a gallon for gas because the politicians named before are too afraid to stand up to gas companies and tree huggers and tap those fields in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico. We have the freedom to smoke in our own homes, I think thats still legal. We are free to take criminals from other countries and support them in our correctional system costing our tax payers billions of dollars a year. We only have the illusion of freedom. Nobody in this world is truly free. We pay taxes for things we will never get, we pay congressmen to further their own ambitions, we pay a f&*^%*n death tax. Other than occasionally being able to express ourselves more freely than some other places, we have as little freedom as some dictatorships.

Freedom is freedom. We have the right in this country to do what we wish as long as it does not interfere with someone else's right to live their lives as they see fit.
