Mr Knowitall- I'm at work, and having my car detailed here at the office by a mobile detailer....why the hell would I ask this AFTER I tip?

Depending on how good of a job they do you will want to do atleast 10%-20% most likely settling on 15%. 10% would be $7 and would only be decent if they do a horrible job, while 20% would be $14 and a decent tip. I would give atleast $10 or more if they do a great job so that they will continue to treat you well in the future.
