As an 18 year old man, i was planning to go to Vegas to gamble and have a good time. However, in Vegas you have to be at least 21 to gamble. I think Vegas could make a lot more money if they allowed 18 year olds to gamble. Plus, 18 year olds dont need anyone to look out for them.

Sorry kid, but no. Vegas is an adult's playground and while you may LEGALLY be an adult, you're not one in my eyes. While there are plenty of rowdy 21+ people, I'd rather not see the 18-year-olds at the casinos gulping down booze and creating trouble.

Three years will go by fast. Be patient until then.

You make an interesting argument. In general, I agree with the principle that 18-year-olds are adults, so should be able to gamble.

However, the government there must feel that gambling compels more caution, like drinking. In both cases, the age is 21.

Gambling is a recreation, rather than a fundamental right, so in this matter, I suppose I side with the ability of Las Vegas to set the rule at 21.

There is a reason why 18 yr olds are not allowed to gamble in the US.

At 18, most teens are foolish with drinking (over drinking, drunk driving, etc). At 21, most adults have a little bit more reservations and the maturity level is higher- more responsible in a nut shell.

Even though their revenue would increase by about 35%, they will never allow it.

No, you need to know the value of the dollar before you start gambling it away. Besides lacking maturity, you need to develop your instincts when gambling. Develop your skills at home and "casino nights" that use play money for fun. That way you will be better prepared to lose gracefully as well as enjoy the fact that when you win, it will be sweet!

If they did let 18 year olds gamble, they would need a lot more penny and nickle slots because most 18 year olds don't have the kind of bankroll to gamble seriously. Same goes for the tables. It would be amusing seeing a table game playing for pennies, nickles, and dimes.

You also need to understand the meaning of "don't gamble more than you can afford to lose".

The casino in Niagara Falls NY would let 18 years gamble but they have free alcohol. This is why they have the 21 year old rule. In Canada, you can be 19 years old and gamble and drink alcohol.

Jeff, you may not need a keeper, but many 18 year olds do. Some of them lack the common sense needed to cross the street by themselves. You'd be shocked at how many college-age people lack many of life's simple experiences (such as eating in a restaurant with tablecloths!), based on what my mom's students tell her. (She's a college professor) Never mind those who lack financial responsibility. How many of your peers can balance a checkbook? How many HAVE checkbooks?

Besides, as someone who is well over 21, I don't like being around immature 18/19/20 year olds who don't know how to act.

The ONLY exception to this is anyone who has served in the US Military. I think if you're old enough to protect our freedom, you're old enough to do pretty much anything.

to many dumb 18 year olds..... However, if an 18 year old joins the Mariens, Army, Navy, or Air Force they should be allowed to gamble and drink..... cause if they get dumb with it the Miltary could deal in house.

This way the more mature 18 year olds who are also serving the country get a perk that the other 18, 19, and 20 year olds dont enjoy.

Just a random idea

that's interesting 18, this reminds me that during the viet nam war most of the soldiers were under 21 (18,19,20) and they couldn't vote . that was changed , but to change the legal age of gambling to 18 would be a mistake, being able to vote is a right of Americans, being allowed to gamble is a privilege, and gambling is illegal in most states, but that is changing daily with all new states allowing slots

Gambling and booze go together, and not many 18 year olds have much money to lose anyway.
