I've beel looking at getting a new laptop and have been looking primarily at Core 2 Duo machines. Which of the AMD chips is comperable to a Core 2, and is there a noticable performance difference?

Okay let me clean up some stuff from previous answers. First off, no one should be talking about the Athlons, they are DESKTOP processors, laptops use AMD Turions. The Turion X2s are dual cores, so yes AMD does have dual cores. Lastly, AMDs do NOT have compatbility problems, both processors use x86 architecture, meaning programs don't even know the difference between the two.

Now as for the question, as I said the Turion X2s would be comparable, but are not nearly as fast. I have some performance benchmarks to illustrate the differenece:http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_mobile.html

new intel core 2 duo has defeated amd 64*2 dual core processor.it is intelligent to take inte core 2 duo than amd
amd is cheaper but has power more dissipation problems when compared to intel core 2 duo.
core 2 duo works faster than amd athlon and at lower clock speeds.due to lower clocked processor we can get its efficiency at low power.
if you can have an ac for amd chips without money problem then its fine.
though core 2 duo beats amd 64*2 we can have more graphics support on amd chips
for gamers amd is better if we can make the chip cool by a fan or ac
else the best choice for ruff and tuff usage is core 2 duo
better take new version of graphics accelerator, graphics card and high speed ram (minimun 512MB)(best>=1GB)for good perforamance

my answer is, particular AMD is comparable to intel duo middle as a results of fact amd is sixty 4 bits and intel is 32bit ,noe newly duo is twin middle that's comparable to sixty 4 bit , formerly whilst AMD is released in industry the size of the processor is in simple terms too enormous and it produces intense warmth, then that they had stopped that product and now that they had released a sparkling processor with none mess united statesand very compatable to the modern-day era. As they maintained the comparable standards and relaunched the product it is obtainable on the comparable value contained accessible as according to their standards.

Core 2 Duo has 2 processors. I dont think the AMD does. I had an old Sony Vaio that had an AMD, it was ok, but slower then I liked. I upgraded to a loaded Dell 1705 that has the guts of a 9400. Its blazing quick, handles game and other programs great. I havent had it freeze due to an overload of the processor.

amd is good with great price..

but the new intel core 2 duo has better rating now than amd, as it's more stable and more efficient.

amd are good performers and dont overheat, also amds can be over clocked as much as 75% but theres always the incompatabilty with some programs, i would go for intel thats my advice
