It is the speed at which the moving object (mass) becomes light according to Einstein's theory E = m c^2
the value of the speed of light is = 299 792 458 m / s
1 meter per second = 0.000621371192 miles per second
so the spped of light is 186282.397 miles/sec

In a vacuum it's about 186,000 miles per second. Light slows down as it passes through a medium, however. The light passing through a diamond actually slows down to half speed!

In imperial units, the speed of light in a vacuum is about 186,282.397 miles per second, that is about one foot per nanosecond.
While scientists don't all agree, the speed of light in other media, like air is somewhat less only because light is absorbed by molecules and re-radiated.

Yes and No, According to Science of Star Trek where scientists try to theoretically prove whats on Star Trek, concept of "warp" could be describing distortion of space where you contract the space in from of a ship and expand space behind the ship creating a "bubble" space for the ship alone. In this bubble the ship is not going faster than light, but the distortions in front and behind the ship make the ship go faster than light from the viewpoint of anyone outside the bubble. This is theoretically possible
