Because they don't want to tell the truth and possibly admit that they are being selfish and unreasonable.

Why would people lie? They don't want to tell you the truth, and these lines are the best they could come up with. If a guy is this unoriginal, or dishonest, why sweat it? God bye, good riddance, from the looks of it.
