What is w3c?

I Want to know what is w3c because i see it alot on virtual world's? And I want to know is it a program that you use to make a virtual world because yahoo use's it too.

w3c is a group that approves how things should be done on the web such as HTML and Javascript. Different companies have problems communicating with each other and agreeing on how something should be done. w3c solves these problems by creating standards that all companies should follow.

Historically, each city set their own time. The railroads established standard time zones so that they could adjust their train schedules. w3c didn't establish this standard, but they do similar work for the internet.
