Absolutely. Without Newton, we'd be floating away. And without Maxwell, there's be no E&M. I guess that makes Gamow most important of all. Without him, the big bang never would have happened and there'd be no universe.

No Newton was not responsible for gravity . It always existed from the gravity power that is stored in the substance of space Since the Universe came into existaence.
He did discover the effect of Gravity. And later Einstein Interpreted the effect by attributing it to pressure change in space as a nonlinear effect known as space curvature.

The phenomena that we call gravity existed for billions of years before Newton so, no, gravity is not a function of his activities.

Yes Newton is responsible for gravity. Some think that it is the attraction of Mass, but I know different. Newton invented it and before that we all flew into space randomly. Thanks Newton.

This sounds like some kind of veiled attempt at discrediting science. What the hell are you talking about? Do you really think that scientists think this way? Look, Newton was responsible for formulating the the 'communicable' laws of gravity. The analogy here is you get a plate of food, and you determine its ingredients! Assuming everyone agrees on what the ingredients are, BAM you have just 'formulated' that particular dish! Did you invent it? NO. Did you invent the ingredients? NO. Did you define what was edible food and what wasn't? NO.

Newton was the first to explain why when the apple that goes up, comes down. Had there been no Newton, someone else would have discovered the same thing, I suppose.

Gravity has always been there, Newton just put together a mathematical equation to describe it.
F = (G * M1 * M2)/(d^2)
M1 and M2 = masses of two objects.
d = distance between the two objects
G = Univeral gravational constant
Which simply states, that the force between two objects is directly related to their mass and inversely related to the square of the distance between them.
