Absolutely. It would sure as hell reduce the amount of conflicts we're involved in by making EVERYONE think twice before declaring a war.

The political fallout from any politician that attempts it would be tremendous. We'd sooner pull of out Iraq before we reinstated the draft.
Oddly enough, the only people I have found that actually are calling for the draft are left democrats, who say that an all volunteer military has a higher proportion of poor people, so the draft should be instated to provide an equitable distribution among classes.
I however, find that idea to be atrocious, and have happened to notice that anyone calling for the draft is not eligible themselves.

No. I'm sorry, but some people can't handle being forced into a war, they would rather be jailed(look at 'Nam).
We already have a lot of soldiers (even if 75% of them are just doing it for the GI Bill)

The draft is unconstitutional.
The first section of the 13th amendment says,
"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction".
A draft would be involuntary servitude and therefore, unconstitutional. :)

My friend, it will indeed be reinstated when the
Democrats get into office, as they have already
proposed it. So, those who don't want to go to
war, will go anyway. All our military now have
volunterred to serve their Country. So, liberals,
get ready to serve if the Dems get into office next.

Perhaps it should. All young people should be required to serve their country for 2 years. Whether in the military or in some other way. If they don't do it voluntarily then a draft would be the ticket to make them.

No, I would rather have people who WANT to fight for our freedoms doing so.
Forcing those who would just rather practice those freedoms may cause our economy to crash when they all flee the country.

Nothing like forcing people to fight for something they don't believe in. Way to get people behind your cause.

that may start a CIVIL war, as we're close enough too that now as it is... and there won't be anything as simple as a geographical dividing line this time.
