Do you think its acceptable to go on holiday for a week on your own? I am 20 and really need to get away yet none of my friends have the money or time. I love my own space too, I am basically looking for a chilled out break.
Whats your opinions on this? And has anyone done this?
Thanks

I am also not a party type of girl, so I wouldnt want to do that even if I was with my mates. I am a bit of a loner in real life too.

I'm also thinking about jetting off on my own as my friends are either couples or don't fancy the kinds of holidays I do or like you, don't have the time/money. I'm seriously thinking about Canada, as I've always wanted to go there. Or maybe a skiing holiday instead of just lazing on a beach somewhere (not a big sun lover).

I have been on hoilday on my own twice. Once when I was 21 I went to Corfu for 2 weeks and more recently my husband took my little girl to France and I went to Spain for 5 nights. The best thing about holidaying on your own is that you can do exactly what you want when you want. The hardest thing to do is eat dinner on your own but once you've done it once, you will have no problem the next times. I usually bring a book to read while eating so I don't need to meet anyone's eyes! I went on a package holiday so there was plenty of opportunity to chat to people if I wanted to but could just sit on my balcony writing or reading if I chose to. I went for long walks and did a lot of thinking and wrote in a diary about what I did each day. I learned some of the language before I went which was really helpful and really brought out my confidence in speaking other languages. I found that I learned a lot about myself and how capable I was and that I could do anything if I put my mind to it. I made a lot of friends and probably socialised more than I would have done had I gone with a friend. My advice would be to learn some of the language, bring loads of books and guide books and plenty of comfy shoes for walking in and some notebooks and pens for writing in. One other thing - when you're on your own you can seem like you're out for being picked up my men, stick to large groups of people if out at night and don't get drunk. Other than that have a lot of fun.

Of course it is. I've done it several times, and it's good fun. In some ways, it's even better than going with other people because you get to do exactly what you want - get up early in the morning or sleep in, as you choose, go sightseeing, go shopping, or just goof around and do not much of anything.
Just be aware of your surroundings. A single person can be a target, in some tourist areas, so be cautious and have a safe vacation.

A friend of mine was also going away on her own, and she decided to go on a coach tour with a group of strangers through Mexico. It turned out she was one of the few in the group who spoke Spanish, they were living on top of each other for the best part of 3 weeks, and she had a great time and now has contacts in Europe and North America. It was a calculated risk and she had a great holiday.
Go with a reputable agency if you decide to try this type of holiday out.

Of course it is! As long as you do like your own company as you say. It's a good chance for you to do exactly as you want or to just take time out from everything and recharge your batteries.
I've done it many times myself and I think it's better to travel alone than not at all. Travelling teaches us so much, it's never a bad idea.
I hope you enjoy it. All the best

I'm going to germany on my own in Oct. I'm only 21, everyone says you shouldn't visit europe alone or rather travel alone at all but this way I get to see everything I want to and not share it doing things I don't want. I say just make sure you go some where you'll enjoy.

Good idea. I had to do this once and it worked out just fine. But I'm a man and Id be worried about a woman out there by themselves. All the crazes and such. just stay in a public place if you can.

book yourself on a cruise? you can have all the quiet time you want ..day..and ..night? but if you so wish ..the party element is also there? with the added bonus of waking up in a different country every morning? dining at a top class restaurant every night, loads of people to meet? go for it ...what have you to lose???????????????

i say go for it girl! i would if it were me. as long as you have plenty to do and dont mind your own company, do it! just stay safe, you'll probably feel really relaxed afterwards :)
if you want to meet people you could always stay in hostels, theres always people travelling around.
