I mean when we see them they dont look like the ones we draw on paper or the stars we receive on Yahoo!Answers.. whats up with that?

Gosh lots of wrong answers.... mystical symbols corresponding to heavenly bodies by the ancients such as egyptians, druids, phoenicians etc. If I am wrong, where does the 'pentagram' came from. of course the ancients!

This question can be better answered in the history section, but I would assume the shape was chosen because of the lines of shine you see when you squint your eyes and look at a light or a star.

Stars are round shape in nature.It is a result of force equilibrium.
Artistic star drawn on paper, appeared on flag,are exaggerated.

Watch a star twinkle and you might notice spikes of light coming from it. The pointed edges of how we draw stars probably come from this phenomena.

The shapes we draw were probably invented by someone with a bad astigmatism.
