you just asked the wrong question. Truth is its 100% matter of oppinion. no one is better than the other, each time a new series comes out, one or the other takes the lead by a small margine until the other releases a new card. I personaly use ATi just because of the ease of setup and the over all image quality. If you do some research you will see that the core technology behind ATi based graphics cards is far supirior to nvidia. Nvidia makes up for this by having 60-70% of the game developers in there pocket. this leads to alot of games being designed on Nvidia based graphics cards. But if you do the research you will see nvidia cards have alot slower clock speeds than ATi cards. for example: Nvidia and Ati will release a new card at the same time. usualy the ATi card has 50-100mhz faster Graphics processor and around 200-500mhz faster memory, But with most of the games being optimized for Geforce cards, the Geforce cards are capable of rendering and moving the information along faster to make up for the performance. the problem comes when you run into a game that is not bias to nvidia, 9 out of 10 times the ATi cards blow the geforce cards away. another thing is driver consistencey. Nvidia has always had more dependable drivers. but what good is a solid driver when every time i turn around Nvidia has motherboard chipset issues. Ive seen some buggy stuff with both SLi and crossfire but nvidia can never seem to stay stable. ATi chipsets are right to the point, without needing a huge driver package to tell it what to do. it simply does its job, on all games, all the time at 100% of its capabilities.

In essence, you cannot go wrong with any. The current line of graphics cards they have can handle the current games with relative ease. However... ATI has graphics cards that are slightly better at system management (meaning, they reduce the strain on the CPU of the computer) and crank out more horsepower than the NVidia counterparts.
Check out the article posted at http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2074422,00.asp
I have owned both an ATI Radeon 9600 (its greatly dated by now, but still works) and an NVidia Geforce 7600GT (my current card) and have found the drivers for the Radeon to be more feature rich.

This is a very opinionated question. If you want to see some results on paper I suggest you try www.anandtech.com or www.tomshardware.com I like to check both sites before buying something
