mercedes or BMW I would recommend. Both are touring cars and are known for their durability. Driving long distance (over 400) miles/kilometers is not recommended at high speed as it can cause premature failure of your oil and cooling system. I recommend if you are going a long distance at high speeds to stop every 200m/k or so to allow the vehicle to cool down. A diesel engine can take the punishment so if you can find a mercedes with a diesel engine grab it for your trip. Safe Motoring and please be courteous of other drivers.

If you want to go fast over long distance, there are a few things to consider. You need something reliable that will last the distance. You want something comfortable so you last the distance. And you want something that does'nt need to be refueled all the time, as time standing still just kills your average speed.

Depending on the speed levels required, a big german diesel sedan would probably fit the bill. Something like a BMW 535D with basic performance upgrades. 0-100 kmh in the mid fives, one has already gone more than 275 kph with just reflash and speed limiter delete - and being a BMW, you know you can just punish it for days on end without technical issues. High speed handling is first rate, and even flat out fuel consumption is in the 20L/100km region - that means you'll cover twice the distance between fuel stops compared to an M5.

BMW 5 series, or Audi A6 would be nice. It really depends on your budget. For a little less, your could go with a Lincoln LS. On the more expensive end, you could go with an Aston Martin DB, or a Mercedes.
