My best friend is getting divorced. Hes been trying to get divorced for the past year. They dont live together and he doesnt want anything to do with her. Well his soon to be x-wife passed by his house one time that we were having a gathering, saw me get off the vehicle and hug him. Then she took down my licence plates. She had an insider friend of hers at the sherrifs dept run my plates. The car is under my sisters name. When I found out ( that she had run my plates, I called her 2 tell her that he and I were just friends, but I never got ahold of her. I was getting calls 2 MY house from her number. I knew it was her bc she had my info (my address too) from the licence plates info. Well now she made a harrassment report that she got harrasing phone calls to her house from me. Only that she has my sisters name bc thats the licence plate info. Can she do something at me now since the order was in my sisters name? Oh and is it illegal to run someones licence plates for no reason? Thanks!

It does in fact depend on your state law, I would say it is morally and ethically wrong for her friend who works for the sheriff's department to run the plate on her request. I would report it to his supervisor immediatetly and file a complaint with the department against this friend.
Technically she can't do anything to 'you' if the NCO is in your sister's name. However, I would advise you not to do anything except try to get this straightened out.
How many times did you call her? She can not get a NCO (no contact order) unless she can show proof of harrasment/threats made against her.
Usually what would happen is she would file for a NCO saying what/why she feels threatened/happened then the judge MAY order her a tem NCO and a court date would be set. However you have to be served (sister sounds like) with the NCO before it is valid. Along with those papers would be the next court date, you would appear and fight her allegations. I would advise the courts of the actions she took against you, (sister) and show where she has called you.
The judge will then throw out the NCO.
Regarding running someones plate, depending on your law in my state I can walk into the DMV and run anyone's plate for a 2.00 fee. I'm not pleased about this as I work in Child protection and I do not like the idea a parent who's children has been removed can find out where I live. I've also tried to put a PO Box address as my home and the DMV won't allow me to.
So find out your local laws, if it is illegal you will have to prove she did in fact run your plate.
Good Luck

I think you are more than just his friend, but I would call the sheriff's office I know it is not allowed that they run people for personal reasons. If there were no calls from you to her then if the phone records were looked it would not show your number calling her number it would be the other way around since you say she is call ing you. I would just ignore her and get on with my life and until the guy is divorced I would keep my distance. Let him clean up his backyard (so to speak) before he plays in yours.

I would think it's ilegal what she did...I used to work for the phone co. and it was a big no no if someone gave me a tel no. and asked me to look at that person's address in our records. Best to stay away from this guy until he gets his life together. If you want to talk to him do it by phone, you don't want to end up getting into a fight with this girl. She might be crazy, and in her mind you're his new girl friend so she's out to get you.

Depends on what state you live in. Me thinks thou dost protest too much. If you aren't guilty, stay out of it. Domestic situations can escalate quickly. Stay safe, and beware of both of them.
