I dont want to do it outside because it takes to long and I want to do it naked. What prevents you from looking too fake? Is it the lotions or is the right place?

tanning beds work, esp. for the naked part. building slowly on a base tan, and finding a place that offers several 'levels' of tanning beds is the best way to make it look natural. start with a low level bed, work your way to a high one, then start over. don't go overboard, just build it up to a nice medium tan. remember to cover your face at least half of the time (faces should naturally be a little lighter) and raise your arms above your head about half the time too (otherwise you'll have white armpits, a dead giveaway)
the lotions don't have much to do with tan color, but using a strong moisturizer after will ensure you don't get flaky fake tan skin.

If you don't want to look orange you are going to need to go to an actual salon. The prices range from 20 bucks to 50 and last 7 days. Some people will say to use the at home brands, but the difference is in the chemical make up of the product. Many of these are containing purely man made products that produce the oompa loompa effect. The salons will use a spray that is derived from cane sugar which not only lasts longer and looks more natural is also more environmentally friendly. The other major plus of going to a salon is that you are not going to have major streaks or "issues" from this.

Tanning doesn't interest me. I've no problem with people having difficulty figuring out where my kahaki shorts and skirt end and my legs begin. Tanning lotions cost money I don't need to spend, even if I had the money. Sun and tanning beds (which also cost money that I don't need to spend, even if I had it to spare) cause skin damage and potentially cancer. Definately not for me.

If tanning did interest me, I would go with the lotions as they're the closest thing to "healthy".

These days, the self-tanning lotions are a lot better, it doesnt make you look fake-y orange-y ... unless you over do it of coz. Try Clarins. I like it.
