I have also recently been diagnosed with PCOS and i am 20 years old...
Clomid is actually a fertility drug so if your not looking to become pregnant i suggest you be very careful, woman with PCOS who take Clomid are at risk for multiple births....I have known alot of woman who have taken clomid and were pregnant within 3-12 months...
Lucky you i have been trying to get on clomid ( my husband and i are trying to conceive) but the only thing my doctor is willing to put me on, as of now is metformin..Which is also a great medication that helps regulate your cycle and help with ovulation...It was first used only to treat people with type 2 diabetes but because woman with PCOS have the same problem with insulin it is now being prescribed for PCOS patients...
So if your not wanting to get pregnant it may be a good idea to ask your doctor about trying metformin instead of clomid, metformin also helps ease the symptoms, so if you are like overweight, or you have facial or body hair, acne etc this medication will help significantly....
hope i helped!

I have PCOS. I was told in Dec 2003 what it was. I had laproscopic surgery to clear out the scar tissue and as many cysts as they could get to. I was then put on birth control for 3 months to pop the remaining cysts and I got pregnant 3 months after that with my daughter. (Baby #2) Never took anything else, here I am pregnant with my third child when I had 2 doctors tell me that there is no way I would ever have more children.

I refused medication for mine (not that I recommend this for anyone else.) I read on a PCOS site that women who lose 20% of their body weight get pregnant within a month. I started going to Curves and lost 20% in 3 mos and exactly one month after that I was pregnant. I know pregnancy is not your 1st concern right now, but losing weight, if you need to, may help you get it under control.
