Today's Article:
Thompson's focus on the Internet as a campaign tool is mirrored by the top Democratic contenders, Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, who already have mined the Web's ability to collect demographic and voting information. College-aged Americans are plugging in to the race through the Internet, and Thompson is the first Republican to have "one of the most profound personality cults we've seen in politics for a long time," according to National Review Online's Jonah Goldberg.
Fred Thompson jokes are even circulating online, presenting wild claims that "every night before he goes to sleep, Osama bin Laden checks under his bed for Fred Thompson," and "Superman is only vulnerable to two things: Kryptonite and Fred Thompson." Others say "Fred Thompson glared at the Mexican border and stopped illegal immigration for a month."

Criticism and jokes are always the one clear sign that somebody is gaining traction with the electorate--and this for somebody who has not even declared his intention to run, although he has left his job on Law and Order.
For many, Thompson fits the bill of a traditional conservative who believes in smaller government, wants to protect the borders, and has a fairly conservative, though non-threatening to others, outlook on social issues. This puts him in contrast to people like Rudy Giuliani who are more socially liberal. It also sets him apart from former candidates like Gary Bauer who talked only about social issues. He already is third in the polls, and I just don't believe the Republicans will end up nominating McCain, though most say Giuliani won't be nominated which is why the rhetoric is heating up between McCain and Romney.
Fred Thompson, as opposed to former Wisconsin Tommy Thompson who actually has declared he is running, may be running because of a perceived vacuum in the Republican Party--that of traditional conservatism. It is a vacuum that likely would have been filled by former Republican Senator George Allen, but his loss in the last election rendered that option moot. Americans are still shopping around--we may see even more candidates, such as Al Gore and Newt Gingrich.

I have already joined his website www.imwithfred.com
I will do whatever I can to support Fred to run and win the 2008 presidential election.
I really think that the more people who read up about him and understand his position on the issues, he will quickly overtake the other Republican candidates.
Lets face it, the Republicans have a bitter fight on our hands to keep the white house from Hillary. Fred is the man who can get the job done!

PLEASE tell me we're talking about Fred Dalton Thompson, former U.S. Senator and actor whose face has been seen in "The Hunt for Red October" and "Law and Order." If these two Fred Thompsons are one and the same, I know who I'm voting for in 2008!

I say Fred is just the flavor of the month in the GOPs desperate search for a candidate that they support. He had the reputation of being the laziest senator in the house. He did not like to work past 2 in the afternoon. He never initiated a single Bill. Not motivated enough to lead the United States. McCain needs to step away from his Bushette role to have any hope at all.

It would be interesting, but I think Fred Thompson will peak early and eventually fall out.
His senatorial record is completely unimpressive and he demanded a light work schedule on the set of Law and Order. He lacks the work ethic necessary to maintain the 20-hour day rigors of the campaign and that will be his undoing.

He has my vote and grassroot support if he decides to run.
Hope he makes a decision soon, to be honest I'm getting a little tired of waiting.
