me and my partner have chosen the names for when we have children. his surname is McKean.
for a boy - Fionnlay Tom McKean (pronounced Finlay)
for a girl - Ocion Aoife McKean (pronounced Ocean ee-fa) btw my dad is irish, so its important to me to have irish names in my children's names as a sign of respect. but what do u think?xx

I absolutely love these names. My real name is very very unusual and spelt a unique way too! I love to be different from everyone else. In fact, if someone told me that they had the same name as me I think I would be quite upset. Having an unusual name also helps to start conversations with people you have just met because they always comment on how they have never heard it before and what are the origins.

My daughter's can never find anything with their names on it, i.e. notepads, jewelry, plates for their bikes....and their names are not unusual. With that said, if you give your children names with spelling that is unusual, they will be just as frustrated as my girls. Also, when parents give their children spelling that is so far off from the originally spelling it looks as if they are trying too hard.

Finley is a great Irish name for a boy. Ocean is unusual enough and pretty so why spell it ocion? And the middle name for a girl.....well, you may as well tell people that all the letters are silent, as it is really illogical.

I am not knocking your choice of names, just the spelling.

I love the names, but what about the spelling of Fionnlay? How about the way it is pronounced, Finlay? Either way, I love the unique names. Would the boy go by Fin for short? I think it's cute/ Good luck!

I'd change Tom to Thomas and Ocion to something else entirely. I love Irish names and Finlay and Aoife are two of my faves.

I actually like both of the names they are not common names so in your case that is a good thing. Also you said you like to show respect and name them Irish names one of my best friends was half Irish so they sound Irish and totally cool

I don't know, I am not fond of either. I don't know too many Irish names, but I do LOVE the name Ailish for a girl, it is Irish. That is an interesting question....what are some other Irish boy names?

I like Fionnlay but looks better Finlay. I don't like Ocion. Some unique Irish names you could consider are:
Girl-
Siobhan
Caitlin
Aidan
Bevin

Boy-
Liam
Brendan
Fionn
Finn

I think it will be hard for people (including your children) to spell and pronounce your children's names. I also think that Irish names are great.
