Some never do. My 17 month old daughter has one on her back. It used to look like a hand print (yeah that was great when the ER thought it was a hand-print bruise from a spanking.... and called Child Services on me.....) anyway, and now it is a little bigger than a 50 cent piece. Hopefully, it does go away soon but some kids will keep it forever.

Some spots go away within a few months, some may take years, but if they do take years, they generally become smaller or fade, until they eventually disappear.

All of my sons were gone between ages 1-3. I have four boys ranging in skin color from high yellow to a carmel color. It seemed the darker the skin the longer it took to go away. They all had the spot on their bottoms.

Some never go away, I know adults who still have theirs. But for most by the time they are 4 or 5 they are gone.

they may or may not go away...some books say by age 2 but my 3yr old still has all the spots she was born with although they have lightened up a bit...contrary to what some people may suggest or say to you don't try skin lightening products/lotion...i had to argue with my m-i-l about this one
