If you want a long long story that takes place over several books, very "trashy" with a great great story try:

But when one of his most trusted fighters is killed- orphaning a half-breed daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate - Wrath must usher the beautiful female into the world of the undead…
Racked by a restlessness in her body that wasn't there before, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes to her at night with shadows in his eyes. His tales of brotherhood and blood frighten her. But his touch ignites a dawning hunger that threatens to consume them both…

If you go with the Tudor books by Gregory you'll get long, trashy, and tragic.
If you go with the Kushiel books by Carey you'll get long, erotic, suspenseful, but ultimately not tragic though there is tragedy in the stories.
Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray is also a good choice although I don't know if it is long enough.
Or, if you want really long, go with the OtherLand series by Tad Williams. This series consists of 4 800+ page long books that tell a single story. Williams has said that he only split it into 4 novels because no one would read a 3,200 page book.

Well, as far as a great trashy historical read I offer up the Tudor series by Philippa Gregory. Very trashy, very tragic, totally enjoyable books!
Another author to check out is Barbara Erskine; Lady of Hay and Child of the Phoenix are looong, trashy, and very satisfying.

Since children come here, it would be irresponsible to name "trashy books". It is a violation of terms of service. If you want an epic, why not challenge yourself and read Ulysses? Pax - C

I think Judith Kranz has cornered the market on that one :) (Maybe Danielle Steel too?)
I enjoyed "Princess Daisy" for just the reasons you offered. I think she did "Lace" or something like that ("Scruples"?) as well, though I don't recall much about it, I'm pretty sure I read it.
Hope that helps!
