matter that exerts a gravitatinal influence on its surrounding but does not emit detectable amounts of radiation. dark matter appears to make up a large fraction of the total amount of mass contained in galaxies, galaxy clusters and the universe as a whole.
whereas dark energy is a little understood form of energy that appears to comprise about 70 per cent of the total amount of mass and energy in the universe. it exerts a replusive effect and is believed to be causing the expansion of the universe to accelerate.

Dark matter could be the discovery of the Substance of the Aether in the Universe . That would mean that all mass structuresneeded dark mather to perfect the whole structure.
That would include Galaxies as well as atoms. This scenerio would be the solution to the Unified theory of force in the Universe.
This idea came up originally described by Milton W. Monson in his Book" Physics is constipated"

Because of observations made on stellar motion within galaxies. Stars on the outskirts of all galaxies tend to orbit about the galactic center much FASTER than what the visible evidence would indicate...so that tells us there's more unseen mass just beyond the galaxies "tugging" at the more outward stars.
Stars and planets both start their formation the same way...it's just that the planets didn't gain enough mass for nuclear reactions to occur within them and, as a result, become stars. So imagine just how many planetary systems are out there without a star at the center of it!! These would be completely invisible to us if not for their effects bu gravity.

An interesting piece of trivia is that Einstein was actually the first to theorize about dark matter, he called it "ether", but other physicists up until the late 1990's discredited him because it was such an outrageous idea. Then when physicists started to realize that there was a lot of matter in the universe that we could not account for, they decided to cover their behinds and call it "dark matter". Just shows that no matter what field you're talking about, you can't escape bureaucracy.

Dark matter is the only way to explain the way galaxies rotate there's more stuff there causing gravitational influence than we can measure.
