They don't have a place for you to go?? Most places have a smoking post or something!?!?

I think as long as it is legal that they shouldn't ban it. I know not all smokers are respective of others rights but I know when I smoke I don't stand in front of doors and I am concious of where my smoke goes - it's my choice to smoke. I just wish that would do that with all the drunken bars out there!!!!

In Canada smoking in public places is banned in restaurants, hospitals, everywhere. Some places have an outside smoking area which has to be a certain distance away from people walking into the building. I hope next is banning smoking in cars that have children as passengers. And just to give you a clue about what most other educated people know....smoking kills.

you must live in the south. this is common practice in most northern and western states. in fact, smoking has been banned in most all public places. second hand smoke is a health hazard. as an ex smoker just recovering from cancer i can attest to that. i hope someday you smarten up and realize that as well. the only reason the southern states are slow to catch on is they are tobacco country. DC finally has made bars smoke free which was a big deal. it is very nice to be able to go out for a nice dinner without having to go home with the stench of cigarrettes on you. at hospitals you have SICK people all around. if you can't have common courtesy for them, shame on you. and if you want a good reason....there are some people walking around with oxygen tanks...they are flamable. how's that for a reason?

You own your house or at least pay rent dont you? Do you have the right to restrict smoking in your house or apartment?Certainly you do. Hospitals are owned by stockholders, and govt. entitites and have a right to set the regulations as they think best. Keep ignoring them and you will be paying fines or end up being arrested. Why dont you quit. Then you wont end up in the hospital with lung cancer. Take a walk through that ward sometime and that might help persuade you.
Thats the terminally ill ward, by the way.

I work in the operating theatres and if you could just see the smokers when they are coming round after an operation you would surly quit, its a disgusting sight seeing them being sick and coughing up loads of crap all over the staff, non smokers are usually alright and have no recovery problems and get better much quicker. Or come and see for yourself the people who are ill from smoking. Not a pretty sight.

Indeed, the hospital IS going way too far--another sign that the non-smoking zone social craze is out of control.

But it's the hosptial that's grubbing for those millions $$$ in Federal grant checks cut out to them for their non-smoking zone efforts.

And such will continue until the hospital staff and patients all rally together to protest the hospital.
