it is as you said a RUMOR

I have not heard any rumors at all about him making a comeback. He is already out of baseball for 5 years and is being inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.

No one has ever returned to play in the Majors after making the H.O.F.

Another Oriole tried it. Jim Palmer went to Spring Training but never broke camp with the team.

Ripken has nothing to gain by coming back execpt a World Series and the Orioles aren't going to go anywhere this year.

No - he seems quite content running his minor league teams and writing books and all the other stuff he's been doing since retiring. There was a rumor that he'd try to put together an ownership group if Angelos decides to sell the Orioles, which I'd put a bit more credibility in.

I'd be surprised and maybe even a little disgusted if he came out of retirement. Why tarnish his legacy? It's cute when Ricky Henderson goes off on rants about the game in "his day" and how he could school Julio Franco, but I don't see any reason to mess with success. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Simply a rumour I hope. He would have to be insane to do so. There is no upside to that move at all.... I live in Baltimore now and if you follow baseball at all you can't go ten minutes without hearing his name invoked as if her were a Saint....
