I have a nice "Cambridge Dry Goods" sweater type top. Is it okay to wear it to an interview with a skirt?

If you are doubting it will be OK, I would not wear it. Just pick another nice shirt to wear with it.

Sleeveless Dress For Interview

2017-01-14 15:18:23 · answer #2 · answered by burgan 4 · 0 0

I have been in business for a number of years, and when a female goes to an interview, in my opinon, a sleevless top is not appropriate, unless you have a light sweater or something to cover.

Here is the reasoning. If the person interviewing you is a man, he can and often will be distracted and it may seem that you are trying to entice him to hire you because you are cute, sexy or because of your attire.

In many cases, this is a turn off in an interview setting. A woman who dresses sexy instead of professionally for an interview is often viewed as trying to sell something rather than to gain something. You may not like that comment, but it is still true.

I would say no, dont wear the sleevless blouse unless you intend to cover it. If you get the job, then you can wear it later.

Good luck in your interview.

I would wear neither (and every interview I've been through, except one, I got the job; the one I didn't get was because there was someone more qualified). But it is best to wear something more suitable to the atmosphere. If you were interviewing for a management position, then the suit will be great, however, if you are interviewing for a worker, you may want to consider pull-over polo type shirt with slacks and hard closed-toes shoes. More important or just as important to the interview as (what you wear), is what questions you ask. I highly recommend you actually write down the questions you come up with and then take them to the interview with you; it would impress the person interviewing you that you took the time to prepare. As a suggestion: Good questions to ask would be: What type of person are you looking for in your new (job title)'s? How will I be evaluated? How often will I be evaluated? Whom all would I need to interact with in order to do my job? What educational benefits are available? What is the potential for advancement from this position? These are suggestions, but I would add these to my list of questions that I came up with from my research on the company (if I were you). I would take the questions along with anything (like paperwork) i need to turn in. I would have those things on my clip-board, and like I said before, dress appropriately for the atmosphere. If you are neat (and clean), your interviewer would not have any ammo against hiring you because you would be in the dress of the warehouse. Believe me, you'll see what I mean. Business-casual is what you want. Polo type shirt with slacks and loafers, you'd fit right in. I wish you well on your interview. IF it should not go well, I can assure you, that you will work if you call this number: 877 PRIME JOB. It is for the recruiting line at Prime Trucking. They will hire you from the street, and send you to school to learn to drive trucks. It will cost you nothing but time. IF you decide to do it, about a week after you call your recruiter, they will send you a bus ticket to come to Springfield, you'll stay in their hotel while in school and they'd feed you twice a day. The hotel is right next to a Walmart, so you'll have extra access to what you need there. In the end though, you are garanteed a job if you pass the school part. from your first day of driving, you should be making over a hundred thousand a year (depending on how you do things; you can contact me via email if you need more info. I hope I didn't put too much in your answer, but I wanted you be well informed. Interviewing is not easy so I understand your asking here. But being out of work is harder. Now one last thing about that trucking thing. One of the biggest blessings of trucking is that you run your own day. You also can live ANYWHERE in the country you want to live...if you want to work in your home area, pay close attention to trucking companies you see in your home area. (The ones you see plenty of). You need to do that, because those w ill be the ones that will hire you to work in your area, but you must cut your teeth on over the road (OTR) for a year. After that, if you have no major (preventable) accidents, then you'll see exactly what I mean... I wish you well. pji

Well depending on the job, if it is for a nicer job at least wear a shrug or a cropped jacket over it. Usually you don't want to wear something that is sleeveless it shows that you aren't ready to be professional. If it is a more relaxed atmosphere I MIGHT be alright but use your brain. Nicer more formal environment get a nice jacket. Ann Taylor and JCrew has good ones.
Good Luck!

It would be more professional to wear a sleeved shirt and dress pants. A job interview is not a fashion show.

No, not unless you have a matching jacket for your skirt. Sleeveless shirts make a bad first impression.

Sweater type? I'd say that is fine. But you shouldn't wear any sleazy tops. That definitely gives a bad impression.

It's generally frowned upon because it looks unprofessional. I would go for a modest cap sleeved shirt or maybe 3/4 sleeves.

I think it all depends on what kind of job you are interviewing for and what the company atmosphere is. Do research and see how current employees dress.
