gotta say all this, then thats the last from me on the McCann subject.
They are apparantely emotionless - well, unless you ARE the McCanns you cannot possibly explain away their composure on telly and in the papers. Valium perhaps? Its well known that all of the other parents ie the Wells, Chapmans, Paynes etc, were given medication (just read their books) in the early days and felt pretty much like zombies. Yes, they are even more emotionless than others, but they really are of a different 'class' (and I hate to use that word as I am not a class person myself) - they have been brought up to be reserved and dignified etc. I know I will get slammed for making that statement - ie how can they possibly be composed when their daughter is missing etc etc - but that is the way they are. You can't turn them into yourself and make them react the way you would. Perhaps they save it for private.

People are often told to react that way in this situation as the perpetrator gets off on seeing their anguish and feels more power full, less likely to return the child.

For what it is worth I think that the powers that be have got it way wrong, but as a mother I would do whatever I thought would work.

I get that it is turning people off, and even though I know it is wrong it is making me slightly hostile.

Being human, and reacting like one, is a bummer sometimes!

I feel sorry for them and for their kid, but I absolutely am sick to death of their endless media coverage.

Just why exactly do they deserve any more attention for their missing child than the thousands of other people in this country who find themselves in the same situation every year?

I know they are using the media to their advantage and I do not blame them for that, but who honestly thinks the media genuinely cares about their plight beyond helping it to sell more issues or get higher viewing figures? It smacks of exploitation - of them.

If - God forbid - their child is still missing this time next year, do you think the media will give a damn any more?

p.s. Re: the onrunning issue of the "Find Madeleine" Fund - just for the record, it will no doubt be run like most trusts, i.e. strictly. I very much doubt they can just dip into it for whatever reason whenever they feel like it.

I think that if these parents seemed to attribute any blame to themselves whatsoever, they'd have everyone's sympathy. Some of the public outrage is probably sense of fear for the safety of these remaining children. If these people sincerely still don't GET it...don't understand what was wrong in their own actions...then these other children remain at risk.

Well said.

No one can imagine how they feel. They could be getting told to act the way they do in public by so-called experts who they are with every day. Who knows? They definitely won't be the same in private.

One thing for certain, they will never ever forgive themselves or ever forget what has happened - whatever the outcome.

Ive missed most of this conversation but I have a child myself and I don't mean to sound horrible but I wouldn't have left my children on their own in a foreign country

Yaddy yaddy yaddy!!!

They are odd!
They show no emotion at all.
Far too busy filling up the bank account and getting their 15 mins of fame.
They should be LOOKING for Maddy, not swanning off around the world!!!and they should be taking care of their other 2 children who are no-where to be seen.

I could not rip them apart, all I can do is put a ribbon on my car explain why to people, and pray to God that it never happens to me.

I just wonder why they left their children on their own, without supervision? The press seems to have tried to hide that little fact.
