Can I do it in Publisher?

I have registered my domain name already. Is there a programme or a book that you would recommend to help me. I don't know a huge amount about it but I have common sense, I am willing to try and do it myself and I am a quick learner!

I am in the UK.

Your help would be much appreciated! Thanks guys x x

Hi Babs - I set up my own website using www.123-reg.co.uk / .com (cant remember!) Check out my results at www.kittykatcards.co.uk 123-reg is so SO easy to use that even I, a total website spaz, could come up with something cool! If youd like further help, drop me a line, be more than happy to give you a hand.

Cheers, Bex

The cheapest way of selling what you make is to sell on a site like eBay. You can have immediate world wide access and their sellers' tools are very easy to use. A simple Web site can be created by a programmer in a couple of hours at the most that includes an on line payment system but most professional companies will charge you a fortune for it.

have you tried deviantart.com?

Its basically a huge community with billions of posted artworks.

Whats more when you post up your artwork you can choose which license you place on it: such as share but dont alter; or allow people to add to your artwork (for example if you were designing a house and you put the drawing up you may want to allow someone to take the picture and add features to it)

The best feature is Deviant art will allow you to sell prints of your work (for a share of the spoil, of course) - many people place their paintings up and deviant art sells prints from photo up to canvas size and you will receive payment for each print.

the pricing and artist share rates are available on the second link down below. Keep in mind that DA handles all of the sale, printing and shipping of your artwork.

The Artist Share for users with an active Premium Subscription Print Account is 50% of the the remainder after the base cost of the item is subtracted from the sale price, provided the sale price is not less than the base cost. Premium Subscription Print Account have the option of changing the retail sale price.

Premium subscription for a year is $30

You can also purchase low cast web-ad space from deviant art. Please see link 3 below for all that information. You can buy packages as low as 500 clicks (on your ad before it is removed) for $20 or as nominal as 25,000 clicks for $1000 (for the hardcore serious among us)

Otherwise, deviantart is a completely free community with no obligations or cohersions to subscribe to anything. Even if you choose not to use it it is a still a brilliant and vast gene pool of some of the most amazing art I have ever seen, and begs to be browsed.

me? Im just a art-nub - you can find me there as Overheal1987

You can use publisher, but I wouldn't. Do you have a copy of FrontPage with your MS Office? If you jave the £ get Dreamweaver and a copy of Dreamweaver for Dummies.

Depending on who you use to host your site you should be able to install scripts by just pushing buttons. My hosting firm offers OSCommerce as an easy install which is a good ecommerce script & fairly easy to learn. Scripts which so image gallaries are also available.

If your site is image heavy ensure you have lots of data transfer. If you have 10Mb of images on your site and 100 people view all the images on your site within a week that's 1Gb datatransfer

Now that you have a domain name, you need someplace to "Host" your website. I recommend: http://www.preferred-hosting.com/index.htm where prices are very good for the basic plan.

Before you do that, you will need to create your website. I do not recommend Publisher for building a website.

You can use any and all of the free programs offered here to begin: http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/default.asp

And for some quick tutorials on HTML, XHTML and CSS, you can learn them quickly here:
For HTML: http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp
For XHTML: http://www.w3schools.com/xhtml/xhtml_intro.asp
For CSS: http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp

If you need any help, feel free to contact me.

Everyone needs to begin somewhere!

Simple options would be to use existing sites

Put photos up: alltradeart.co.uk

Sell things: ebay.co.uk

If you are willing to put time and effort into making your own website try htmlgoodies.com
