I've been told that they can't be mailed "Media Mail" because the magazines have advertisements in them. They won't fit in a flat-rate box. Is Parcel Post my only option, or is there anything specifically for magazines?? Thanks!

"Media Mail® service is a cost efficient way to mail books, sound recordings, recorded video tapes, printed music, and recorded computer-readable media (such as CDs, DVDs, and diskettes). Media Mail can not contain advertising except for incidental announcements of books."

Mail it as a "flat" in a manila envelope. The cheapest postage would probably be parcel post, but I believe the package would have to be at least 3/4" thick. Other than that you could go first class, but if it weighs over 16 oz. it would have to go Priority. I work for the Postal Service, but am not a window clerk. So, I'm not exactly sure about the whole media mail thing. I do know that media mail, library rate, BPM (bound and printed matter), and parcel post take the same amount of time to mail. Hope this helps.

Cheapest Way To Ship Magazines

If they can't go media mail then parcel post is usually the next cheapest rate, unless you have a lot that you are mailing at once. If you are mailing a lot of the same issue then you should check into bulk mailing. Call your post office and ask them. They should be able to tell you over the phone and that way you'll be prepared before you go in.

I think what they mean is you can't use Media Mail for your OWN advertising for yourself to profit. Magazines (unless you are the publisher or are sending them for promo reasons) are fine.

When they say "no ads" they mean that businesses and people cannot send advertising materials at a reduced cost to benefit themselves

Media Rate is the cheapest for this kind of mailing. It's not because of advertising. It's because it's media.

Cheapest way is media mail. However that takes a much longer time then just mailing them first class.

Have you investigated "Bound Printed Matter" or "Library Mail" rates?

media mail is definitely the cheapest option. You would have to use your own packaging so you wouldn't have to pay the higher rates.

b.s. they can't go Media Mail. It's a printed periodical - it can go media. That's exactly what media mail is for.
