Telling your Dr. you regularly have 21 drinks in a week would make him/her worry. But if you spread the drinking out over the whole week is that level of consumption really something to be concerned about?

With three glasses a day, it sounds like you drink it for the affect not the health benefits or taste. I do think it is something to worry about, and I think your doctor would agree.

Nope, it is actually healthy. Something to do with anti-oxidants or something. I'm 23 and I drink 2 glasses of wine a day usually and I'm perfectly healthy. You know, with these science findings reports about how this gives you cancer, that gives you cancer... it goes on and on. Just being alive is a cancer risk! So have that glass or two of red wine if you enjoy it because that's what's most important about life - enjoying it. Alcohol does help with sleep problems but I've found out that if you have just a bit of brandy or sherry or port wine for those nights when you can't sleep that you'll sleep much better. However don't drink more than just a small bit otherwise you'll have a bad sleep and feel lethargic the next day.

2 to 3 glasses of any alcoholic beverage during one night is excessive. Maybe talk to your doctor about a referral for treatment. And to Sarah below: To drink consistently every evening may not seem to you to be a problem, but it most certainly is. One glass of red wine per nite with dinner is said to be good, but more than that is just "wanting" to drink and justifying it by using that as an excuse. People can be alcoholics and still maintain a "normal" lifestyle, i.e, going to work every day, doing the domestic things, etc. But the fact remains...to feel the need to drink on a daily basis is truly an issue that needs to be addressed. I can tell you this from working on the alcoholics floor at a local hospital for 3 years...Ive heard every excuse and seen every "type"of alcoholic from the working mom/dad with a family to the teenager who is trying to be popular to the homeless living in the streets. Its not pretty regardless of the situation. Most you would never guess to being an alcoholic. Just an observation via my experiences as a professional.

That's half a bottle of wine to yourself, that to me seems excessive if it is every week. If you are getting buzzed from it then you are probably doing it because you have an alcohol problem. However if you were in Italy I have a feeling this would be considered normal. Allthough I have to say it's not about getting drunk or buzzed over there, it's to enhance your food. I doubt you are sitting down to dinner long enough to have that many glasses of wine and really be enjoying each one. Take this into consideration, you're asking the question which means deep down you allready know it's a problem. Besides, doesn't that get expensive???

A Doctor would probably conclude that you are possibly an alcoholic from this information. If you are drinking the wine for health benefits one glass per night would be sufficient but if you are drinking to sleep it should be okay for a period of time drink this amount.

I'm only 16, but I do know that my parents both have a few glasses of wine at dinner each night. They are both healthy, non-alcoholics. First, it is good for your health. Second, I know my parents don't drink to get to sleep. Often times they work for a few more hours after dinner. The amount of alcohol your body can take varies from person to person, especially from genetics. As long as you can control your drinking and aren't getting drunk every night, don't stress out over it. Maybe mention it to your doctor, but don't automatically assume yourself to be an alcoholic. Enjoy life!

Some experts say moderate alcohol consumption, especially red wine, raises one's HDL or good cholesterol. One glass may be ok; two glasses ok for a man, not for a woman (I didn't make this up!). Personally, I worry about this level of consumption, especially if you feel you NEED it,

Confusius say: Third glass of wine drinks the man.

Most Docotors say that a glass of wine a day isn't going to hurt you. 2-3 however might be a bit much. I'd try sticking to one glass with dinner and then maybe one afterwards.

If you are drinking and then hopping into bed, I don't see anything excessive about it. As long as your actions aren't excessive, then drink it up!
