for the most part they run on time, and no smoking but they do stop alot and they do have layovers and transfers you can smoke then if its a long trip they do stop for meals, but take snacks and something to drink in a container that you can seal closed as not to spill it,do take a pillow/light blanket it does get chilly or you may need it to cover your eyes at night while someone has a light on ,also try to get a seat next to a window so you have something to lean against and don't sit in the back seat on either side those seats do not recline,be there early and get your bags in line so you can find a choice seat ,some people will already be on the bus and they get to return first before new passengers, its better just to take a carry on if you can travel light ,lighter the better.take a book,or video game that has a sound control they wont let you disturb others with anything that makes sound.try to enjoy your trip ! PS,the main reason i say to travel light and only take a carry on is ,that your bags can get lost/or if for any reason they should break open they do intercept it and send it somewhere and you are likely not to get it back with everything you had in it/if at all and they only insure 100.00 most bags these days cost more than that...

I just recently took a trip to Maine using Greyhound. You should look to arriving there at least an hour before your trip departs. Maybe even two hours, if you want to get the seat of your choice. The bus has a first come, first serve type of policy so you're best arriving there as early as possible.
They do pretty much run on schedule and they are reliable. No smoking is allowed. There are no TVs on board. There are no outlets in the bus for you to plug anything in (say an Ipod to charge or something) I wasn't too comfortable on the ride, it was 10 hours long... depending on the length of your trip, bring a travel pillow. I'm going to do that the next time I go! :)
