You have to write the book before you worry about the other steps. Publishers will not take a chance on an unknown author unless you have a finished manuscript in hand, that you editted to the best of your ability.

Once you get going on the actual writing, you may do well to find a critique group that suits you. Then you can get feedback from a group of writers (although you must give it as well). At your age, it might help to have a trusted teacher or parent look at it as well. Do you have an English teacher who you can approach? They would be valuable in helping you with grammar and spelling.

No publisher or agent should charge you any money up front! That is the sign of a scam! They make money by selling your book. Agents work on a commission (generally 15% of the amount of money the publishers pay you).

There are two types of publishing, traditional and self-publishing. If you choose to go with self-pubbing, I would recommend http://www.lulu.com as a great site. They don't pretend to be anything they are not, and have excellent service. All the decisions will be in your hands. However, going with a company like this is a difficult road and it is not considered a publishing credential if you look to go traditional down the road. Here is some other information about the downside of self-publishers (also known as vanity presses):

As far as novels go, different publishers specialize in different things, and fiction is a broad world. You have to try and sell your material to companies that produce similar works (ie, don't try and sell a fantasy novel to a romance publisher). So do your homework. Take a look at the most recent "Writer's Market"... or even better, try the "Guide to Literary Agents".

I absolutely suggest getting an agent instead of approaching publishers directly. I'm assuming you are not a contract attorney, so you will need someone to look over any offers and to guide you through the publishing world.

Here are some websites that can help. Read them thoroughly and research, research, research!

Good luck!

Publishers take well manuscripts significantly. A submission from an creator who's fourteen years ancient isn't any unique from a submission from an creator who's 80 years ancient. If it is good written and the editor thinks it's valued at obtaining . . . Well, that is all that concerns. Be aware: With the onslaught of persons watching for "unfastened books" on-line and the fame of eBooks, coupled with the unhealthy economic climate, the publishing enterprise has taken successful. Not to be discouraging, however manuscripts ought to be distinctive to ensure that a condominium to even don't forget putting in place the money and power right into a guide at the present time. But if in case you have religion on your writing, then not anything must avert you from making an attempt. And sure, the contracts will ought to be signed through your dad and mom and you'll be released below your title. As for the modifying, you're going to most of the time now not have overwhelming manipulate over that. Editing is finished in order that the tale make experience. It's now not always to strip the guide of suggestions, so I would not be overly involved approximately having your whole well suggestions taken out.

all writer's should always check two websites
www.writersmarket.com and http://www.anotherealm.com/prededitors/

The first will give you places to submit, the second will list who to avoid.

Editing is your job as a writer. You must polish your manuscript to the best of your ability before submitting. If a publisher accepts your manuscript then they have editors to go over it with a fine tooth comb and prepare it for publication.

Unless your vanity publishing you should not pay for edits on your manuscript or the publication. You should receive royalties (pay) from the publisher.

Join a great writing group to learn the ins and outs of the business.

Hope that helps.

While researching is your job, editing can be done by experts. Publishing involves acceptance of the manuscript by mainstream publishers and you need an agent for pitching your manuscript to different publishers. You can, of course self-publish for a few hundred dollars if you are in USA.

Email me separately for more help in editing if you need.
