I just replaced my Tecumseh starter on my 1993 Craftsman lawnmower. 12hp. The starter spins when I hook a jumper pack to it but not through the battery. I assume the battery is dead. However shouldn't I be able to start the mower by jumping the starter? When I jump it the starter doesn't hit the fly wheel. Why? What can I do to fix it? Could it be my jumper pack is just not strong enough? Its 12v 6amp. Please tell me this is a simple inexpensive fix. thanks

That starter draws about 40 amps.

Charge you battery, or use jumper cables from your car to the battery on the mower.

Can you get the mower close enough to an automobile to jump start your mower from the car's battery? If your car battery doesn't get the job done then there must be something else going on.
