Foo Fighters are the bomb, but Cursive is my favorite now. They use all kinds of wierd instruments in these hard rock alternative songs, like violins and stuff. OMG i love them! www.cursivearmy.com
Muse is the best thing ever too... I am obsessed by them, but cursive is more alt. rock than muse is..

I don't knopw about a particualr band......but I say Chris Cornell is the best in the alternative genre currently......... he cam into fame with Soundgarden, continued it with Temple of the Dog, had a pretty good solo career and had a great run with Audioslave
