They basically are saying they don't want to be a part of a corrupt empire that is about to fall. They want to peacefully withdraw.

Personally I think it is an awesome idea. It doesn't make economical sense but at least they have the b@lls to admit the US is a ship going down and they don't want to be on it when it does.

Seems to me that if each State voluntarily joined the Union, then they should also have the right to opt out if circumstances warrant it. I am not saying it would be a good or a bad thing but since that is what a democracy is supposed to be about, then they should be able to do so. We have the same issue that arises every decade or so with Quebec up here and like my country, if Quebec separated, it would be a great loss to our Nation as losing Vermont would be to yours. Hope things work out for you all...

The only people who think it's noble or awesome are people who use terms like corrupt empire.

Outside of cows and scenery what does Vermont have to offer toward self sufficiency? You are correct it makes no economic sense to secede. In fact it would be fiscal suicide.

The ship isn't going down but 13% of the Green Mountain do think that way. It's up to the 87% to take care of the minority and not humor them.

They wouldn't ever do it. The number of people supporting this is low, and I think it originated at a vinyl record store. This is a joke, how are they going to get gas? Food? All the resources in the US that flow into Vermont could stop, they'd have to produce all their own energy, etc.... The US government is not going to approve of losing Vermont, what army would Vermont defend itself with?

I was born there left in the Vietnam era, I will be coming up soon to stay for a while very soon! Vermont & Texas were independant of U.S. back in history so i don't have a problem with this idea. They may be on the right track! The amount of Federal dollars Vermont gets very low now so i don't think they would miss it. Plus hey maybe they start printing their own!

It's not Vermont, it's a handful of left-wing morons looking for headlines.

Actual Vermonters (I'm one of them) consider them to be freaks who probably came from New York or Massachusetts.

I'm wondering how the people of Vermont feel about this. Most would be terribly crippled without federal aid and would be forced to relocate .
