80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Can a person speak of a rainbow without colors? Neither can a person speak of life without meaning. Life is filled with meaning from beginning to end. Everything thing you do changes what it touches. Every word you speak has its affect. Every thought that enters your mind lives for eternity. Consciousness is a part of the equation of reality.

Your soul is the sum product of everything you do, every word you speak, and every thought that enters your mind. So be careful with how your nurture your soul. Seek truth, practice love and relish everything in the world that is beautiful. In doing so you achieve not only meaning in your life but even more, enlightenment.

I'm going to go with the old "it's the journey, not the destination" man... Everyday we rush here and run their getting to school, work, shopping, getting food and what not. And for what? Theirs not going to be any Divine intervention, god will not stop what he's doing to come to earth and tell you what you need to do in life to be full filled. Enjoy the day, embrace the moron behind the checkout counter, and just go home and bbq with the friends. Look around you. Thats why were here.

You answered your own question. In a biological sense it is to reproduce. But the greater question is why reproduce and live? Does a virus, a sea sponge, a frog , a cat, a bird live to ask that question? They are all alive, want to stay alive and reproduce. But they just exist.....And that answers your question. We (humans) are here to ask the question... WHY?

Experience - soul growth. Don't take the eternal damnation stuff seriously, it's a control mechanism. You'll get more opportunities, so do your best, then each new experience get better / easier !

I think it is to live a full happy life. Live your dreams and make a difference. Don't worry what others think, as long as you are happy that is all that matters. =)
