Notice that most aren't answering your question: Since we throw embryos created in the course of treating infertility, why not use them, instead of throwing them away.
I wanted to respond to the person who said something about people wanting to live forever: It's not about living forever; it's about quality of life.
If you're paralyzed, you want to be able to walk again; Parkinson's is debilitating.
It's about preventing human suffering.
Of course, one doesn't expect accuracy from the "Give the zygote the vote" crowd.

There are 3 ways stem cells can be extracted, there was already cures made under the adult stem cell research but none have been made with the embryonic and some scientist think it is a dead end. Obama stopped the research in the promising adult stem cell research to begin research in embryonic which so far has nothing for a years worth of research, it makes more sense to continue in something that already showed promise but this is the stupidity of the Obama Regime.

First, those embryos aren't "ours", they belong to the people who had them made. The decision is theirs, not "ours".
Second, for ethical reasons, a significant number of people oppose the deliberate destruction of a human life form for scientific inquiry. So, we don't support this research being paid for by our taxes. We did, however, support Bush's decision to fund existing embryonic stem cell lines, which was the very first time the government has funded them.
There are no laws preventing private companies from doing this research. That's what is so idiotic in the article you cited, that a private donor was supposedly frustrated - there are no curbs on embryonic stem cell research in the US.

They imagine that the embryos used in stem cell research are stolen right out of the mother's uterus. They don't realize that if they aren't used for stem cell research, they are incinerated in a big pile of medical waste.
You don't hear them crying out for the rights of THOSE "babies," only the ones whose mothers decide to get an abortion before bringing an unwanted child into the world.

I have an issue with fetal stem cell research. No human being should ever be murdered for harvesting cells.
If stem cells from bone marrow or placenta/umbilical cord (from already born baby) are used, I'm all for research!
As for the idea of "throwing away embryos," I have been trying to have a child for 6 years. I would GLADLY take an embryo and implant it. (I'm sure there are MANY others out there dealing with fertility issues that think and feel the same way!)

You think of the embryo as a slab of meat. You can't understand why it can't be used like a petri dish.
People against embryonic stem cell research see a human being. A defenseless human who deserves the dignity taken from him when he was killed.
Harvesting cells from him is a continuation of the disrespect the person has already been shown.
But unless you see an embryo as a person, none of this will sink in.

The argument isn't against stem cells. There are other ways to get stem cells showing great potential. There is no need to rush and destroy what has the potential to grow into full grown human being.

Because god told them it was a good idea. It's really sad that some people can't tell the difference between a human life and few cells in a freezer. How many more people are actually alive have to die of disease that we might be able to cure?
And when we do cure some of these horrible diseases I really hope conservatives opt to die rather then take the cure. Natural selection will sort these people out in no time.

Did you read any where that it is not illegal to use Embryonic stem cells which are the only one we are NOT funding because of how they come by them. We are funding all other stem cell research and it is giving us cures. Embryonic stem cell research by the way has been quite the bust according to scientist.

The most viable stem cells are from embryos. If there is a huge source of healing there, the logical outcome would be to use aborted or lab-grown fetuses to heal people with disease or injury.
If you believe abortion after a certain point of pregnancy is killing a person, then you will be against the potential farming of unborn children.
