this is easier than you think. use your system restore. in the system restore program their will be a screen that will allow you to use the option to restore back to factory specs. use this option and it will remove everything back to the way it was originally purchased.

If you still have the information available in the pc you can use a free utility to wipe the specific files in question.
If you want to wipe out the entire disk you need to:
1) delete the partition
2) create a new partition
3) format the disk
4) install the OS again to override previous data. However, that does not guarantee the sector where the data is located will be replaced with files to overwrite the previous data.
This is just general. I guess there will be better comments with specific programs you can use. However, look at http://download.com and search for erase disk or erase data to look for the utilities.

hard drive data is still accessible after a format. There are special programs that the Dod use to wipe drives. But another way would be to drill 1/4 -1/2 inch holes thru the drive a few times. This would destroy the actual platters that hold all of the data..

I was concerned about the same issue, a year and a half ago, when I upgraded from a desktop to a laptop... I checked with pals at a couple three webmaster sites. The majority suggested, the surest bet was to remove the hard drive and play Captain Destructo. I took my hard drive to the garage, placed it in the vise, ripped it to shreds with pliers and a sledge hammer, and disposed of the pieces in separate places.

You have 2 options to do 1 - Keep your HDD and install it in your new PC or laptop. Buy a new one and install instead. 2- Create a dummy file of pictures that have heavy MBs and recreate by copy and paste and fill out the entire HD then delete. do this twice and delete. if anyone tries to snoop in yr HD he will find that dummy file only

Fortunately, there is a free product (see link below) that can wipe out data so securely, even the NSA would have a hard time getting your data back. I use this frequently and have tested it with top of the line forensic software and it works.
