That is a tough question and I think that suicide is the decision of the patient or the patients family. Also the suicide should only happen when the patient is pretty far gone, where death seems to be the only answer to their pain and suffering. The patient needs to be in a correct state of mind when he says he wants doctor assisted suicide.

Yes, doctor assisted suicide should be legal for people with longterm, deadly (non curable) diseases. My mother had M.S. and spent the last 3 years of her life in miserable pain and suffering due to the disease. She prayed every night that she would not wake to see the moring. We could have stopped her suffering and let her die in peace if doctor assisted suicide was legal.
Why is it okay to kill a criminal for the crime they have commited or put our beloved pet "to sleep" when they are too sick to help? Why can't we help our own families out when they are suffering? It is a harsh double standard.

this is a very sensitive topic, same as abortion. God gave everyone their own free will. We know and acknowledge that we must take responsibility for our own actions. God does not approve of taking a life no matter what form it is or when.
I don't believe in doctor-assisted (physically) suicide. With regard to a person taking their own life, it's just like someone breaking into your house...if they really want to do it they will find a way; I don't think they should take someone else's soul with them. In addition fatal usually means an end is soon coming so why hasten it, it's a time to get your paperwork in order and your final wishes determined and to pull close to your family. In looking at what all medicine has accomplished over the years one never knows when a cure can come along so there is always hope, and there is still marajuana. Just move to the state where that is approved.

I really hate the feeling of playing God. With people or pets, but if the patient is able to express their wishes and they are in pain and their death would otherwise be long and suffering, I think it may be an option. It is not a choice that I would want to be faced with.

I think euthanasia would be the last best option for the patient if the sufferings are painful. Basically Euthanasia means merciful killing. If patient is convinced than there is nothing harm in getting relief from all pain and sufferings.

That is a tough one. It should ultimately be God who decides when we die but I personally would not want to live in such a way but I wouldn't want to go to hell either. Besides the whole religious aspect of it, it's not like people walk into a doctor's office and asked to be "put down." It's a very lengthy process that includes physical as well as mental evaluation. I think if Euthanasia is done correctly and ethically then the patient should be allowed to end his or her suffering.

It should be the patient's choice, and no one else's. For exampls, if a person has a degenerative disease, like Alzheimer's, they need to be given the option at first diagnosis and not foced to take barbituates when their families can no longer deal with the stress. And it shouldn't even be given as a choice to any patient who has a potentially curable illness.

YES! Most definitely! Why in the hell should a terminally ill patient who is probably in a LOT of agony be kept on life support for *moral reasons* If the patient has had enough and wants to die in peace, then by all means!

I kinda think so. I don't really think there is an entirely right or wrong answer though... it just depends on the person and their family, etc. There is a lot to think about... would you want to be in a vegetative state while your family took care of you day after day, year after year? I guess it should be a legal option but then again, it is playing God. It would be a sticky situation to say the least!

I think people should be in control of their own lives. If I want to die, I should be able to do it! Doctors who help very ill patients in the death process are angels. They are the only ones that realize how precious life is. If I am in constant pain or I am paralyzed etc. and do not want to suffer any longer, who has any right to tell me that I am not allowed to die with dignity? Doctors who assist people in their death process help these people make the best of a horrible situation. I think it's a complete sin to prosecute them! They are doing difficult work and they are giving the suffering dignity.
