I just moved in last week and my apartment is SO stinky. I was told before I moved in that meth users were living here previously. My landlord said she was sure there was no meth lab here, but they were still required to paint everything and put in new carpeting and linolium. I thought if they were doing that, there would be no problem, but the smell hasn't let up at all. It almost smells like dog poop or something. It's worse in a couple of bedrooms. Is it possible it has something to do with the meth users living here? New carpet doesn't smell like that, does it? Also, do you think I can back out of a lease for a stinky apartment that isn't getting better? I'm really thinking it's time to look for a new place. Sorry so long!

It can be from puke, dog sh*t, not taking out the trash, spilled foot left to rot on carpet, smoking, or they never took the time to clean the carpet. Id request a different apartment, because this is unfair to you as a customer, and tenant. If not, threaten with a lawsuit and say some intelligent big words....then the office will feel intimidated. The best you can do is get a professional carpet cleaner, or rent a RugDoctor from the nearest super market--it cleans the hell outta your carpet.

We moved in an apartment too. My moms room smells like animal pee, because some jerk off couldnt walk their fking dog. So your not alone on the odor issue....my room smells good :)

Probably a problem with the tenant rather than the apartment... Just kidding. Unscrew your air vents in the rooms that the smell is the worst. There is a chance something like an animal somehow made it into the ducts of the apartment and died, the a/c could be blowing the smell into your apartment. If that turns out not to be the case, you really should try to find the source of the smell. The air doesn't just stink by itself, it has to be coming from somewhere. I'm sure you could get out of your lease if your landlord can't fix the problem, but why go through the trouble of moving if you can just solve the problem?

It could be a dead rodent. A squirrell died in our attic and the entire house STANK. When the smell first began we did not know what to think. We literally walked around sniffing, and went into the attic to investigate. With the aid of a strong flashlight, we found the dead squirrell. The fact that the home is a former meth lab could be a coincidence. I'd look in the vents. Another reason could be that they had cats or dogs there that pooped in the vents (if they are floor vents). If the smell is too bad or you don't want to deal with the issue anymore, I'd ask to break the lease. This could be the beginning of other stinky issues.

the smell has nothing to do with meth, meth is odorless when it is finished, the smell of cat urine is what comes from cooking it, the smell must be something else. call the landlord and let them know what's going on. they would have to fix the problem. It very well could be a dead rodent somewhere in the walls or something.

i would let the landlord know and give them an oppurtunity to fix it. if there were meth users living there it would smell like burning plastic not poop.
so chances are u might have a rodent problem. usually mice (leave behind a smell of urine or fesese) I would suggets getting an exterminator. there might be a dead mouse creating the awful smell (might be dead in between the walls) so that could be the source. get an extermintor to come in and give a full inspection. hopefully things will get cleared up.

Do you have baking soda? in case you have no longer already achieved so - i could exchange the muddle container, and placed a layer of baking soda on the backside earlier including extra muddle. Then, to help issues smell clean, take a splash lemon juice or white vinegar and water. placed right into a small saucepan and boil for a couple of minutes to deodorize the air. do no longer worry with regard to the white vinegar - it won't make an acid smell (do no longer use the different form of vinegar nonetheless). Have an incredible evening! savor your organization.

you can back off if the landlord fails to maintain the property

there are so many things that can be causing the problem, i would normally answer mold to this, but that should not have a fecies odor to it.

tell the landlord that it is unbearable and needs to be remedied or you intend to negate the lease contract for failure to provide liveable conditions

Do you really think your landlord is going to tell you the truth?

go down to the local police dept. and, get police reports...then, contact the health dept...(get out of there)...that smell doesnt sound as it will go away for a long time, and, you could be placing yourself in harms way, who knows who has been in that apt. or come back thinking you sell drugs (not realizing the former tenant moved out).

best wishes

There may be an issue with mold, you should get a home mold test wich you can buy at lowes to be sure because if there is it could be toxic for you to live there

It also could be something dead in the walls or something. I agree with the previous person that suggested you call the health department.
