Let's say your ethnicity is X (can be any) and you're looking for romance. As your friend, I tell you, "Hey I know lots of guys/girls of your ethnicity you can hook up with!"

Would you think I was being racist?

Yeh that is a tad bit racist. What makes it racist is that you had to point out the ethnicity. Instead, you should have gone with something along the lines of " Hey I know lots of guys/girls that you could hook up with". The question is....why did you feel the need to even point out the ethnicity? What made you think that it was okay?

No, not at all. Did you intend it to be racist? (I'm thinking not...as it appears you are trying to be helpful). Someone would have to be extremely overly sensitive to see racism here...one of those people who pick apart everything someone says. Those people ARE out there. Don't let them make you assess everything you say. They will make you become too "careful" about everything that you say when talking to your friends of any ethnicity and that will destroy the friendships eventually and may even cause you to subconsciously avoid additional friendships.

I think you WILL find that the people who call you "racist" over this are caucasians. They tend to walk on eggshells all the time. Knock it off, guys. Be more natural and less guarded with your "friends". That's why they are "friends".

Good question.

not racist, just thoughtless. The main thing here is if the hook ups came through and were they a match for you? Good luck in finding the person of your dreams.

Well he's definitely making assumptions that could be called racist. I'd be a little offended if I were you, but bear in mind that your friend was trying to help.

I don't think it would be. After all, most people in this country still stay in their ethnic group when dating. I would just ask them if they know of people outside of it, too.

I would certainly wonder why you said that and why it would matter about the race. I would ask you about it though and see what you meant before I accused you of being racist. Now for someone that wouldn't give you a chance to explain then yeah I would say it sounds kind of racist.

Racism is a learned hatred, whereas ignorance just happens. Why would you assume that I limit myself romantically/sexually or even LIKE being with my own race? Similarly, I once told a guy that I knew a girl for him and he asked why I ASSUMED he was straight!

I dont its you be racists..........But to say it in that way I personally would not like it. But then again alot of cultures want there children to date and marry people of there own ethnicity.

Im american and my bf is chaldean, they want him to date and marry a nice chaldean girl but doesnt stop him.

(Eg: Chaldeans)

no. it's natural to assume that someone of a certain ethnicity would prefer to be with someone of that same ethinicity. i know that this isn't always true but i would think it safe to assume and not racist.

So if you said you knew a lot of Honky chicks for me it wouldn't be racist? OK. I'll buy that.
