nope, 'America' is not obsessive about "freeing" Cuba, it is obsessive about turning Cuba into a huge warehouse to storage (illegal) weapons, (illegal) "POW"s, (obviously illegal) drugs and whatnot.
Also, remember Cuba practically 'belonged' to the USA before Castro came in, during Fulgencio Batista's "government". Until then, the country was under U.S. occupation, where corruption, slavery & widespread poverty were the daily bread. Oh, and the Guantanamo Bay naval base was settled.
So, with that said, it's easy to understand that if Castro goes down, the US will have full control over Cuba's riches again.

Our embargo isn't stopping their progress. Since they trade with everyone else in the world, our embargo should be little more than an inconvenience.
We only refuse to do normal business with petty dictators.
Why support tyranny?
If they had a free enterprise system the people of Cuba would prosper because they would have HOPE and the ability to enjoy the fruits of their own labor. Therefore they would be more productive.
Recognize the TRUE cause of their poor economic situation.
It is tyranny.

Every other country can do as they see fit and so will America. You really are giving the USA a lot of power if you think our embargo is the only thing stopping their progress.

More American propaganda. A ploy to make the US feel good and important. Cuba is NOT suffering from the American embargo. Their tourism industry is flourishing with investors from Europe - and most love to travel there because they won't have to deal with Americans at the hotels. Like it or not, it is a truth. The US stands alone in its naive and biased hatred of Castro and Cuba...and the American people are eating it up.

We were heavily involved in their governance until Castro came to power. Beyond that we have a huge exile community in Miami that is politically powerfully, most namely with Lincoln Diaz-Balart in Congress, that keeps the embargo going.

America fears Communism.
Unfortunately, the American public has been brainwashed into thinking Communism is evil when in theory it is actually perfect. Its been poorly implemented throughout history and has accordingly been hit with a negative stigma.
Wake up. Communism could solve everything.

we have nothing to do with their progress, that is an internal matter between the people and the government that they love and support. when enough of its citizens demand and change, like Castro did in the 50s, then there will be a great leap forward.

Cuban exiles in Florida who want to see Castro overthrown can swing elections results in Florida. You'll remember that Florida in turn swung the election to Bush in 2000. Since there is no corresponding "Keep Castro in Power" group in Florida, any sane politician would favor the anti-Castro group.
