i really don't know the official answer to this question because i didn't have the change to interview the parents of these chinese filipinos. but to my thinking, i would say because of the rhyme - the english name with the chinese surname, they really rhyme. filipino names which were mostly adapted from spanish names do not rhyme with the chinese surnames. and another reason is maybe because most filipinos look up to western ways/norms/etc. nowadays, pure filipinos normally adapt english names for their children.

Gosh.... Chinese language was the language most spoken in the world because of its population.... Chinese came from the east, so they need names from the West to make it truly international. Remember, English is the international language. Now if you meet East and West, the chinese' feel they dominate the world. The Dragon and the tiger, just like yin and yang.

It sounds better than using a Spanish name like Perdo Lee. Juan Uy. Just doesn't sound right. Besides they go to the U.S. when they finish school.

Because in Chinese culture the last name goes first and the first name goes last. Its just written backwards.

Kim Chui is another one. She was on Sana Maulit Muli with Gerald Anderson. Maybe their father's were of Chinese Decent and they took upon their father's first name. In China the first name is their last and their last is their first.
