Speaking from Upstate New York, there are surprisingly few Blue Jays' fans in the area. You'd think their popularity would carry over the border, but it really doesn't.

One of the reasons now is that the Yankees and Mets are on local cable television, and the Blue Jays aren't. So fans often go up to Toronto to root for the visiting team.

I would guess Canada follows the Jays all the way to Vancouver, especially now with the Expos gone. But there's no natural constituency on this side of the border.

I can't give you any stats, but my experience is that they don't have a large following in the U.S.

When I lived in Cincinnati, the Jays traveled there for an interleague series. Besides me, I saw two other fans at the game wearing Jays' gear, and when I talked with them it turned out that we were all Canadians who just happened to be living there for work.

They get a good turnout in Detroit, but that's because Windsor is right across the river and lots of fans will travel from Sarnia, Chatham, and the London area. Same goes for Seattle (traveling from B.C.) and Minnesota (northern Ontario/Manitoba). When I've seen them play in further locales, like Boston or Chicago, there aren't many Jays fans. You'll find some, but my guess is that most are expatriates.

Yeah, they sell a lot of gear actually. Too bad the Expos are no longer around.

I would doubt it though the Expos had a cult following. They sure didn't at Montreal though.
