Bachelor in nursing about four years or slightly less. For other one you need 4 years to get pre-med degree 4 years medical school and 2 years to specialize in Psychiatry. if you are talking about becoming psychiatric nurse not sure, but stands to reason it would add to course work required. It might not be that much more, and you might be able to take needed courses by increasing class load. The course work is similar and you could train for both at same time. Some training institution would love the extra money, but you might over educate yourself where employers won't want to hire you.

You can become a nurse on your way to a psychiatrist but a psychiatrist is a medical doctor that specializes in psychiatry. The nursing degree would be good support for the MD degree but in my opinion is not necessary because the MD is the higher degree.
If you are looking at becoming a psychiatric nurse then you might want to work in a psychiatrists office as a nurse or nurses aid to gain training and expertise above the RN. I'm sure there are masters degrees in nursing with an emphasis in psychiatry but not all schools of nursing (which are not in trade schools normally) offer masters degrees or even bachelors degrees in nursing. Some only offer associate degrees.
Now, I couldn't tell from your question if you meant psychiatrist or psychologist but if you mean psychologist then it could be done along side a nursing degree or added on to a nursing degree. To be a practitioner as a psychologist usually means that you are specialist (at or above a masters level - at the specialist level) and can counsel people. It may also mean in the future that you may want a Ph.D. or and Ed.S. (a non-medical school degree but of comparable length).
Hope this helps.

Well, no. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor. And it is pretty much impossible to do medical school and nursing school at the same time. Now, after becoming a nurse and working for a few years, you can go back to school to become a Psychiatric Nurse.

You can become a nurse through a trade school. A Psychiatrist is a medical doctor and has completed medical school.

No- you'll be too tired from working as a nurse to go back to med school. Nurses can be trained to prescribe meds, however- the title is Nurse Practitioner. That's as close to a complete medical school diploma as you will get.
