I have a laptop running XP Operating System. I have a wireless card and have been going "wireless" at home for the past 3 or 4 months. All of a sudden, I am unable to get into Internet Explorer. In the lower right hand of the screen it tells me I'm connected and my signal strenght is excellent, but I am not able to gain access to the internet. I was told by a friend that I have lost my IP address. It is defaulting to 192.blah.blah.blah and 192 is a windows default IP address. Does anyone know how to fix this issue, I have tried about everything, including disabling the antivirus software....to no avail. HELP!!!

Your help is appreciated...

first: reset your computer.

Second: go to http://192.168.1.1 in a browser to go to your router. See if you are connected to the internet. Should be on the first page. Click connect.

Three: Reset the router, pull the plug out. Pull out your cd that came with your internet installation or manually protect the router from scratch.

I have most likely another router than you, so step 2 might not work for you.

192. bla. bla. bla is not a windows default ip, windows defaults the ip's to 168. bla. bla .bla when it cannot find a DHCP. You are getting a good ip address the problem may be that you need to renew your ip address. Right click on the connection in the bottom right where it says you are connected and tell it to repair the connection. If this doesn't work then. Unplug your router and broadband modem Wait a minute then plug in your modem first wait til it fully connects and the lights are solid then plug in your router and wait about 30 seconds to a minute and re connect your laptop to the wireless signal. All should be working now. Good Luck HTH.
