i'm pretty sure it's a corse where you study for so many years then do work involved with the course then return to study for another year.

A sandwich course is a course where you study the theory in university for two years, then in middle of the course - the third year - you go into the "real world" of work for a year to gain experience then for the last year finish off the degree. Mainly a way of getting experience.

I did a sandwich course at catering college, and delicious they were too.

Nah, only joking. One year at uni, one year on work placement, one year at uni.
