It made me sad. He was such a good father! His daughter obviously loved him and wanted to stay with him. It just shows that people who aren't considered "normal" by most standards can be good parents. I can't remember what happened @ the end of the movie.

Yes, and I loved it. It's moving because it presents a situation that shocks people. A man with mental retardation or any mental illness (I'm not sure) who loves his daughter above anything and takes care of her and is able to offer her a happy childhood. I wouldn't take it too seriously because those people can't handle ALL the situations in a child's daily life, but I'm happy that movie has been made. It made many people open their eyes. Because many don't realise that people with that type of mental disorder can be very tender and protective.

It was a powerful movie; one that makes you re-think stereotypes.

Sean Penn was convincing at the retarded father who's bright daughter (portrayed by the young but talented, Dakota Fanning) mental capability exceeds his own and his fight to keep her, with the intiallly reclutant charactor portrayed by Michelle Pffiefer, who only intially agreed to help him to save face with her peer at a party after they commented on her money grubbing persona.

Michelle's lawyer characther self-discovery that Penn's charactor was actually more of a role model due to his dedication to his daughter was piviotal.

The character of Sean Penn really moved me. His love towards his daughter knows no boundaries. In fact, his mental state was no excuse not to express any ordinary man's love towards another human being.
