around Chennai railway station[both Central and Egmore] you have a number of good hotels particularly run by Udupis,costing
within your budget. If near Central station, Hotel Dasapraksh and Ramprasad just opposite to Egmore are dependable, though some what old. Veg.restaurants in those premises are also popular. You can try them. All the best !

There are lots of hotels which are cheap and good too near the railway station which are within 5mins of walk after you come out of station on too the main road.. its called poonamallee high road.

There is one by name Chennai Park. But it has only one AC room if its available then good for you :-) its 5 min walk from central on the main road, left hand side.

yes, just outside the stations in Central area as well as Egmore, there are reasonably good hotels: also, almost all over city areas! (Dasprakash, Buhari etc., in region of your budget) try "chennaionline" web site for more research on this, if you have time and the net at your disposal!

Cool, you can have even for less budget in those area. Just opposite to both stations(central & egmore) there are lot of stations. *
