I have a sleep problem. I sleep late and wake up very very early. And in the afternoon, my brain wants to take naps but I can't. What do I do? P.S. Dont put your answer as sleeping pills or sleep clinic.

TRY THE FOLLOWING:

So long as you're positive that your sleep problems are not related to anything like "apnea", you won't need a clinic. But, it does sound like you are not getting enough "quality" sleep. You can train yourself to go to bed earlier, just take it very slowly like 10-15 minutes earlier for a whole week. If that seems to go well, bump it up another 10-15 minutes the next week.

If you find that you are unable to sleep through the night, melatonin supplements can help. They are NOT sleeping pilles, but rather a supplement that helps regulate your sleep cycles.

Doing more exercise can also help. I also agree with other commentators of going to bed at a reasonable time every night. Moreover, establish yourself a "bedtime routine". It varies for everyone, but you will find that once established as you turn off lights, brush teeth, shower, lay out tomorrow's clothes, or whatever, you begin to actually feel yourself winding down and find it easier to go to sleep when you get into bed.

Try and get yourself into a daily routine. Make sure you have a healthy diet - lots of veggies etc and water to drink. Try a mug of hot milk or cocoa before bed and a warm relaxing bath, then get into bed and settle yourself down. Try going at the same time every night say 1030pm and don't have any other distrcations in your room like a tv or radio - If you get yourself in a routine like this your body will begin to wind down and realise it is time to sleep. Have some patience and get some good sleep!

Sunshine helps a lot. Your body is obviously confused about what is daytime and what is sleeptime. Sitting near a bright window or being outside for several hours a day helps turn your body's schedule around. Been there, tried it, worked for me.

P.S. Bananas have something in them that induces sleep. Banana & a cup of hot chocolate--I'm down for the count.

Keep a close watch to your caffeine intake and take nothing with caffeine after 12:00pm. Exercise earlier because otherwise it keeps you alert. Practice relaxation and meditation right before bed. May you have wonderful dreams!

Try eating more fruits and vegtables keep your energy up in the day. At night try working out before you sleep or if you have a mate I have passionate whoopy before bed.
