Maybe because they have got experience which is supposed to bring about wisdom too.
But I think in most of the cases the second part of the theory just doesn't work.
Young talented people should be given big responsibilities too as this is their high time & they are certainly more efficient than people over 70.

India, indian government, state governments are very much particular in castes. i am not against it, but our leaders while framing wanted to give fulstop on certain period, but our governments for politics extending this and may extend until forward community become most most backward. They never see whether an individual is skilled or intelligent or can make use of him etc.,Quota selections and not skill power. That is politics. They also did not want skilled, intelligent people. They did not see the pulse of intelligent, but they see purse of the individuals. This is my limit. i should not go beyond. so, i stop with this. But, a foreigner in a foreign country see the skill only, he is seeing the intelligence and not the castes or purse and therefore indians get high posts in all the countries and naturally our indians really skilled too.

Well unlike this culture the "native Americans" (if that is who you are referring to) hold a great deal of respect for their elders and know with age comes understanding experience and knowledge. Some of America commander in chiefs were well into the seventies sometimes eighties.
p.s use Indian for people from India and native American for the ... well that's self explanatory

Because they are Indians, and Indians do what others do not.Anyway,I think it is beacuse it gives them(the over70s)the feeling that they have done someting or reached somewhere in their lives, and can live peacefully later on.If a younger man is elected it will take ages for the person to retire and this forms a blockade for others.

Wisdom, cricket, wisdom. You need the experience of life to gain true wisdom. I have a sign on my bumper that says it in a different version; Old Age & Treachery Will Overcome Youth & Skill.

It's really because they know they can get pretty quick turnover in those posts. Not like Americans voting in 50/60 years olds for our political offices, then we're stuck with them nearly forever.
